To become an HPCSA registered counselor, you must have completed a 4-year Bachelor of Psychology university degree approved by the HPCSA, including a 720-hour practicum; or a recognized BPsych Equivalent Program approved by HPCSA, including a 720-hour practicum.

The word “counselor” in the context of this training and the accompanying manual, refers to a volunteer, lay, non-professional Christian counselor,  as this is the everyday word used in church contexts.

The word “counselor” in the context of the training and following counselling interactions,  does not refer to a professional HPCSA registered counselor or psychologist.

Much care is taken that counselors and counselees are clear about the fact that GADC is a non-professional lay counselling journey and that the journey can in no way be confused with professional counselling or therapy.
